The catalog on this website lists courses and webinars by Topic Areas. Due to Board restrictions on content, you should avoid earning your PDH in the Topic Areas listed above.

Special Illinois Requirements:

  • Effective January 1, 2020, all Illinois Professional Engineers and Structural Engineers are required to complete a 1 PDH Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Course as a part of the continuing education requirement. PDHengineer has developed a course designed to meet the state standards, Sexual Harassment Training for Illinois Structural and Professional Engineers.

For the remaining hours of required courses, no specific guidance or restrictions on the content are are provided by the Board except:
For Professional Engineers, the course must "contribute to the advancement, extension or enhancement of the professional skills and/or scientific knowledge of the licensee in practice of professional engineering" and "foster the enhancement of general or specialized practice and values of professional engineering, related sciences and engineering ethics."
For Structural Engineers, the course must "contribute to the advancement, extension or enhancement of the professional skills and scientific knowledge of the licensee in practice of structural engineering" and "foster the enhancement of general or specialized practice and values of structural engineering."

Approved Activities

Activity Restrictions:

1. Structural Engineers are limited to a maximum of 10 CE credit hours per renewal period for self-administered courses. Professional Engineers do not have this restriction.

For Professional Engineers, there is no limit on the number of PDHs that can be earned through online continuing education. For Structural Engineers, a maximum of 10 CE credit hours per prerenewal period may be earned for the completion of a self-administered course. Each self-administered course shall include an examination that will be graded by the sponsor. PDHengineer's online courses and video-on-demand courses would be considered "self-administered" for Illinois Structural Engineers. Both Professional Engineers and Structural Engineers can use live, interactive webinars as a part of their continuing education credits without limit.

PDH Carryover

Hours cannot be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Notes

  1. Credit will be given for self-study courses only if an examination has been completed by the licensee and graded by the sponsor. PDHengineer meets this requirement by providing an online quiz that is graded automatically.
  2. The Board specifically states that equipment demonstrations will not be accepted for PDH credit.
  3. PDH completion records must be maintained for a minimum of 6 years for Professional Engineers and 4 years for Structural Engineers.
